Top 12 Female Pop Artists - Number 12: Britney Spears

Every Saturday for the next 12 weeks I decided to count down my top 12 female pop artists. After each cut will be a short explanation of why they made the list and their discographies. There will also be audio of some of my favorite songs to listen to, and video of some of their music videos and live performances that I like the most. Give the page time to load after you click "Read More" because all the audio and video may cause it to take awhile.

Some of these songs or video may have already been posted in other entries, but they will be reposted for the countdown purposes if they are some of favorites. (And of course the number of songs and videos posted will depend on how new the artist is...a newer artist will have far fewer than one who's been around for years). This week we begin the countdown with:

Number 12 - Britney Spears

I know, I know...Britney Spears? Really? Trust me, I agree. I really don't think she is a true artist. My best friend calls her an "employed pop star" and I completely agree. She doesn't write her own music, doesn't play any musical instruments, doesn't sing live, doesn't have hardly any say in the production of her songs, and really has no statements to make whatsoever through her art. Hell, she can't even dance like she used to.

But she (or, more likely, her people) know how to hook her up with talented producers and she still makes good music. If her music wasn't so damn catchy still, I'd have no interest in her whatsoever. But she remains, to this day, my biggest guilty pleasure. I don't take her seriously at all, but because of how much I honestly still like her (and I use the term "her" very loosely), she had to make the countdown. At least she's at the bottom of the list, right?
