Every Saturday for the next 12 weeks I decided to count down my top 12 female pop artists. After each cut will be a short explanation of why they made the list and their discographies. There will also be audio of some of my favorite songs to listen to, and video of some of their music videos and live performances that I like the most.
Give the page time to load after you click "Read More" because all the audio and video may cause it to take awhile.
Some of these songs or video may have already been posted in other entries, but they will be reposted for the countdown purposes if they are some of favorites. (And of course the number of songs and videos posted will depend on how new the artist is...a newer artist will have far fewer than one who's been around for years). This week we the countdown continues with:
Number 6 - Dixie Chicks
I know that the Dixie Chicks are really country, not pop, but they're really country-pop and have had some crossover success, so they qualify for this list. I'm not a huge fan of country music but I absolutely love the Dixie Chicks. Some of their super country songs aren't very appealing to me, but a lot of their songs are really good, especially from their last studio album, "Taking the Long Way." I especially love their lead singer, Natalie Maines. Her voice is simply amazing and one-of-a-kind, and her personality is as well. She's spunky, smart, and feisty--which is why she got into trouble when she made the comment about President Bush on the eve of the Iraq War.
Throughout the whole incident she proved fearless and didn't back down. Even when someone threatened to kill her at one of her concerts, she still performed! I had always liked the music, but it was seeing their resilience through the time when most of their fans and the public turned on them that really made me a huge fan. The brilliance of the "Taking the Long Way" album (which the girls co-wrote themselves) just sealed the down for me.
